Congress Announcement
Being held from the 5th – 9th December 2010 at the new Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, the 2010 Congress will be the biggest and most diverse scientific meeting of the Australian physics calendar. It will attract between 700 – 1000 delegates and will involve most active groups in physics from around the country. Groups represented will include:
- Academic institutions
- State and Federal institutes (CSIRO, DSTO, ANSTO, Australian Synchrotron)
- Teachers and students
- Hospitals

A diverse range of industry sectors (manufacturing, telecommunications, biomedicine, defence, transport, electronics)
2010 – Year of the Laser
Laserfest is a year long celebration of the 50th anniversary of the laser, which was first demonstrated in 1960, and is a collaboration between the American Physical Society, the Optical Society, SPIE and IEEE Photonics Society. From DVD players to eye surgery, the laser is one of the greatest inventions of the 20th century—one that has revolutionised the way we live.
