Student Prizes

In general to be eligible you must be a student and must be giving an oral presentation or be the presenting author for a poster. Some of the prizes also require membership of a relevant society.

Each of the prizes will be judged by a panel that will endeavour to attend all relevant student presentations. It can be difficult for panels to identify all student presentations so we are asking students to self-identify. Failure to do so does not disqualify you but panels will only assess on the presentations they see. There will be no appeals where a presentation has been missed for any reason. So to maximise your chances let the Congress Organisers know if you wish to be considered.

If you wish to be considered for a student prize please tick the “Yes, I am a student” box when you register. If you have already registered or have forgotten to tick the “student” box you can email the Regsitration Manager and ask them to note your student status.

CiSRA Student Prizes

CiSRA

CiSRA will again be generously sponsoring four prizes for student presenters in the AIP Congress this year. The awards will take the form of a cash prize and a certificate. To be eligible the student must be the speaker, or for a poster, must be in attendance at the poster session.

Each prize includes:

  • Personal cheque for $585
  • Certificate in the recipient’s name

Please note: Student means a full-time student enrolled at a tertiary education institution in Australia or overseas.

Wanda Henry Prize

The Wanda Henry Prize is awarded annually at ACOFT for the best student presentation either orally or as a poster. It is awarded in memory of Wanda Henry, who had a promising scientific career cut tragically short.

The prize/s includes:

  • Personal cheque for $500
  • Certificate in the recipient’s name
  • A copy of the Wanda Henry booklet

Please note, postdeadline papers are not eligible and in this context, student means a full-time student at a tertiary education institution in Australia or overseas.

OSA and SPIE Student Prizes

Sponsored by the Optical Society of America and the SPIE, these prizes are awarded to the two best student presentations, oral or poster. The value of each prize is USD1250 and they take the form of reimbursement for costs associated with attending an OSA or SPIE conference. Presentations in any session at AIP/ACOFT 2010 will be eligible. To be eligible the student must be a member of the Australian Optical Society, and in the case of an oral presentation, must be the speaker, or for a poster, must actually be in attendance at the poster session. Please note, winners of the SPIE prize can claim for attending an OSA conference and vice versa.
